A Quick Guide to Gnosis | |
---|---|
Synopsis | The Gnosis Project is basically a large repository of music data catering to the discerning, experimental/avant/progressive listener. In order to understand the data, it is imperative that you first understand the system and the meaning behind the ratings. |
Reviews | The site generally consists of ratings and reviews. Reviews can be found by accessing the Reviews Index, which lists all of the current reviews pages that can be found on the site. Review pages are grouped by artist, or in the rare case of very prolific artists, we'll break down the reviews pages by decades. In addition to the Reviews Index, when viewing ratings, you will also be able to link to artists who have review pages by clicking on the artist name. |
Ratings Scale |
Gnosis ratings are based on a 15 point system, from 1 (very poor) to 15 (very good). You can review detailed explanations of what each grade means by accessing the Ratings Scale Guide. A grades of 0 generally means that the rater has not heard the album, and a dash indicates that the rater has not yet rated the album. |
Search or Browse Albums |
There are a multitude of ways that you can Search and Browse the music titles on Gnosis. Just try all the different options and see how they work, even if you are not sure what they do. |
Newbie? | If you're new to Gnosis, we recommend getting a general idea by searching for your favorite albums on the site and comparing what you think of these albums with the raters' grades. In doing so, you can get a general idea of which raters agree more with your own tastes. All Raters at Gnosis also have a biography page which helps to give further information by which one can find which raters' tastes are more like your own. |
Radio | Should you wish to be introduced to the music Gnosis covers, there is no better way but to turn into our weekly Radio Show on Aural Moon, two hours showcasing the various genres and styles covered at the site. |
Volunteer or Contribute |
If you wish to contribute to Gnosis in some way or join the Gnosis team and become further immersed please take a look at our Volunteer / Contribution page. |
