Enjoy these Styles and musical qualities:
Ambient, Beat, Canterbury, Difficult, Electronic, Kosmiche or Kraut Rock, Improvisational, Jazz, Keltia, RIO, Symphonic, Tradiitional, Space, Psychedelic, Zeuhl
Other styles/genres/qualities of music that I like not listed above:
I tend to think that most genres of music have something to offer. Inspiration, daring, spirit, imagination and character are the things I look for most in music.
Favorite or well-respected bands/artists
Far too many to list here, but the short list of bands most important to me right now would have to include Genesis, Incredible String Band, Jethro Tull, Gong, Soft Machine, Magma, Velvet Underground (& related), Tangerine Dream, Popol Vuh, Van der Graaf Generator/Peter Hammill and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso.
Dislike these Styles and musical qualities:
Mainstream/Accessible/Pop, New Age
Musical styles or qualities that I do not like:
I generally don't like music that sounds uninspired, intentionally commerical or inauthentic. More specifically, I guess I'm not really into AOR, "prog-by-numbers", cliches, cheese and bands/artists that take themselves far more seriously than they should.
Occupation(s):
Law student at Fordham University in Manhattan, hoping to get into international law or international trade law.
Other musical activities:
I used to do my own prog-rock show on WNYU in New York City before graduating, and am still an occasional guest on Plastic Tales from the Marshmallow Dimention, a prog/psych/garage show that airs on WNYU, 89.1 FM in the New York area, from 9-10:30 on Monday nights. You can also tune in online at www.wnyu.org .

I write the occasional review for Gnosis and the Giant Progweed, but unfortunately my time for this has been cut way short by school lately.

Hobbies / obsessions:
Obviously, I like collecting and listening to music. Aside from music and school, my spare time is pretty much devoted to spending whatever time I can with friends and navigating the New York bar scene in search of good drink, good conversation and European girls. I like shooting the shit about music, books, sports, culture and life in general, although I often get carried away expounding on economics and the virtues of the free market. I also love to read when I get the chance - science fiction is my favorite.
Other comments:
If anyone is willing to pay someone for listening to lots progressive rock and then telling them what to buy, by all means contact me. Thanks.
