Sjef Oellers 10-March-2001 Trettioåriga Kriget

Trettioåriga Kriget plays rather dramatic, heavy progressive rock. The album features frequent, heavy, and complex guitar riffing, sounding like a cross between Il Balletto di Bronzo, King Crimson, and Yes. Although some of the chord progressions are more jazz flavoured, the album contains mainly good, heavy guitar-drenched progressive rock. Keyboards are mostly used for creating a spacey background, so symphonic rock fans or keyboard freaks could feel a bit undernourished. The singer has a somewhat flat, boring voice, but it doesn't spoil the album for me. One of the positive features is that despite the dominating presence of heavy guitar rock, they manage to write fairly intricate compositions without degenerating into the usual hard rock clichés. Interesting album.
