Sjef Oellers 30-March-2001 Ako Doma

Ako Doma is a band from Slovakia playing progressive jazz rock with a few symphonic touches. Sometimes they sound like a modern version of Fermata or Finch. Zappa's album Make a Jazz Noise Here also gives some idea of what to expect. The shorter tracks are decent to good, but nothing special. The three longest tracks (at 7, 8 and 23 minutes) are excellent progressive jazz rock with lively interplay, mostly between guitar, sax and keyboards. There is a nice balance between band interplay and solos for individual members, although the guitarist is maybe a bit more dominant in the solo sections than the others. A promising new band with a good debut album.
