# Artist Song (click to play) Album Year CD label
1 Sithonia La danza del gatto sul tetto Spettacolo Annullato 1992 Mellow
Decent prog that oftentimes reminds me of some late 80's and early 90's French prog bands prevalent on the Musea label. There are some definate Genesis touches, of the Wind and Wuthering type. This is a worthwhile CD to pickup. Would like to hear more from this band. They do have 3 other albums, but, I have not heard them.

2 Deus Ex Machina Perpetua Lux II De Republica 1995 Kaliphonia
This is one of the first things I bought several years ago, when I first ventured to try some new progressive rock music being touted on the rec.music.progressive newsgroup. Upon the first couple of listens, I could not handle the vocals - too much like nothing I've ever heard. It was about a year before I even gave it another listen. This time I could handle the vocals a little more, and discovered that the underlying music is incredible! But, now I think the music and vocals are incredible and DEM is far and away my favorite of 90's Italian prog. The band is remarkably virtuosic often playing a hyper-active fusion inflected prog akin to Area. This band is really reaching out to new grounds.

3 Tale Cue Craven Smiles Voices Beyond My Curtain 1991 Musea
Decent sympho with female vocals. Not particularly challenging. Has some nice melodies and hooks that are memorable.

4 Eris Pluvia Glares of the Mind Rings of Earthly Delight 1991 Musea
Excellent symphonic with folky touches. Lots of flute and nicely used saxophone. Comparable to Ezra Winston. It is on the mellow side most of the time, but, lifts in intensity here and there.

5 Devil Doll Dies Irae - Parts I-II-III Dies Irae 1996 Hurdy Gurdy
What better way to end show #13 than with Devil Doll. The music and subject matter is on the macabre side. This is another group where the vocals are so different, that it may be a stumbling block at first. When I first heard Devil Doll and the vocals, my reaction was laughter. But, they say that people often laugh when they are scared, so maybe that's what was happening? Anyway the band is an interesting mix of gothic orchestrations, modern progressive rock instrumentation, and highly stylized vocals. The vocals are often in more of a spoken word form. I like it alot.
