1 | Guru Guru | Stone In | UFO | 1970 | Spalax |
Well, most people use phrases like: totally stoned, freak-out, raving lunatic guitar, spaced, acid psych madness, bla bla. Yeah - that pretty much sums it up! :-) The line-up is guitar, bass, and drums. Kind of like Cream's instrumental improvisations, but, with acid-drenched stoned freakout, pysch space madness.
2 | Eela Craig | New Born Child | Eela Craig | 1971 | Garden of Delights |
This is Eela Craig's first album in a completlely different style from the symphonic style they would be known for later in the 70's. The CD re-issue also has some nice singles tracks that the band did in 1972 and 1974. The band at this point sounds influenced perhaps by Colosseum with some funky saxophone and bluesy guitar. Vocals are in English. Eela Craig is actually from Austria which kind of fits in with the Krautrock scene.
3 | Amon Duul II | Kanaan | Phallus Dei | 1969 | Captain Trip |
A remarkable and truly ground-braking album. You can hear the influence that
this album had on future Krautrock and space-rock groups like Eloy and
Hawkwind. I was astonished when I heard this album, thinking that 1969 was
pretty early for such a well developed progressive sound. It just goes to
show that bands do not necessarily progress into a developed sound, but,
sometimes arrive there miraculously from the very start. The music is
psychedelic, experimental, and also tasteful.

4 | Tangerine Dream | Ashes to Ashes | Electronic Meditation | 1970 | Relativity |
Electronic Meditation is Tangerine Dream's first album and the only one to
feature Klaus Schulze & Conrad Schnitzler in addition to the only mainstay
of the band Edgar Froese. It is experimental and somewhat sparse. A nice
atmospheric soundscape that is kind of creepy. Perhaps one of the first
free rock albums.

5 | Wallenstein | Lunetic | Blitzkrieg | 1971 | (Bernard Mikulski?) |
A classic keyboard and guitar anthem. The album has a sound and feel that is very similar to Nektar's _A Tab in the Ocean_ or Triumvirat's _Mediterranean Tales_. On this album band has a classical symphonic approach with grandiose compositions and mellodramatic lead guitar. A very fine album that is essentially completely instrumental.
