| 1 | Singularity | Ebb and Flow | Color of Space | 1999 | self-produced |
| "Singularity is a band who hails right near me from Boulder, CO. They play a modern melodic prog influenced by a variety of bands like Rush, Marillion, KC, Yes etc. Anyways I like their music a lot because it's not only very professional sounding but very thoughtful and 'honest' sounding (to me anyways), plus they're a bunch of nice guys to boot. You can hear more clips or order their cd off their website at: SINGULARITY " - Alan Mallery | |||||
| 2 | Krakatoa | Driving by Candlabrum | Plan Ahead | 1999 | self-produced |
| A new band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania playing a fresh sounding instrumental chamber rock. Very energetic and interesting music. Instruments include violin, guitar, bass, piano, drums and a large assortment of auxiliary percussion. Excellent and recommended. The CD is available from Wayside / Cuneiform. | |||||
| 3 | Motoi Sakuraba | Strive Against the Dark/Bulzome Rising | Force of Light | 1999 | Musea |
| "Motoi Sakuraba is a very talented keyboardist/composer who used to be in the group Deja Vu. Nowadays he composes music for video game soundtracks. Most of the music on this disc was composed for a series of games, but seems rearranged for general prog listening. Guest musicians handle drums and guitar. I hear a definite UK influence. Keyboard fans should like this disc a lot." - Alan Mallery | |||||
| 4 | Tribal Tech - Scott Henderson & Gary Willis | Jalapeno | Thick | 1999 | Zebra Records |
| This is Tribal Tech's 8th studio release after a 4-year hiatus. A smokin' guitar fest with bass, drums, and keys. This album is as good an introduction to the band as any. If you are a fan of fusion guitar, you must hear Scott Henderson as he is one of the best guitar players there is. The rest of the band aint too shabby, either! | |||||
| 5 | Liquid Tension Experiment | Biaxident | 2 | 1999 | Magna Carta |
| "This is the second album from Tony Levin, Jordan Rudess, Mike Portnoy, and John Petrucci. While I liked their 1st album, this disc is much better. The songs are more tightly composed and thought out, and the playing is very inspired." - Alan Mallery | |||||
